International Russian Music Piano Competition

 International Russian Music Piano Competition
Official Rules

1.    The application form and all required materials must be postmarked by April 1, 2013. A checklist of items required is located on the application form.  We encourage all contestants to apply as early as possible in order for the competition committee to address any issues prior to the deadline.   Applications are not considered complete until all documents and fees have been received by the competition.
Applications, photos, or documents submitted via email will not be accepted and must be included with the application by the deadline. All fees are non-refundable for any reason and must be paid in full by April 1, 2013 for the first deadline.  See application for more information, payment details, and options.
Applicants who miss the first deadline may include a $50 late fee in addition to all the above requirements. Late applications must be postmarked no later than April 30, 2013.

2.    A change fee of $25 will apply for each repertoire change requested after the application has been submitted.  Repertoire changes will not be accepted after May 24, 2013.

3.    Any applicant who knowingly gives inaccurate or misleading information, or submits an incomplete application, will be disqualified.

4.    All contestants are encouraged to attend the Opening Ceremony and Draw on June 7, 2013 at 5:00 pm as important information about the competition will be announced, and contestants will select their own order of performance.  Contestants who are unable to attend the Opening Ceremony and Draw must send a request via e-mail to Julie Poklewski  (julie@russianmusiccompetition.com) prior to June 5, 2013 so that a number may be drawn on behalf of the contestant.  Contestants who do not attend the Opening Ceremony and Draw, and do not arrange for a number to be drawn on their behalf will be disqualified. Please do not contact the Competition regarding your order of performance.  The results of the draw for all contestants will be posted online at the competition website by midnight on June 7, 2013.

5.    All requests or questions shall be submitted via e-mail (info@russianmusiccompetition.com) or website form only.

6.    All contestants must submit two official passport photos with the contestants name and category clearly written on the back of both photos.  Do not staple, tape, paperclip, or glue the photos to the application – simply include the photos with the application.  Photos submitted will be used in the competition program. Photos should be created by a photo lab, not printed by a personal printer. Damaged, dirty, or very poor quality photos may be rejected and require resubmittal.

7.    All contestants must submit Letters of Recommendation: the Intermediate and Advanced Categories require two letters; Young Musicians and Junior Categories require one. These letters must be from competent musical authorities, i.e. current instructors, conservatory professors, concert artists, etc.  The Letters of Recommendation should be recent (within the past 12 months) and can only be sent via mail by the contestant or the originator.  Letters sent via e-mail will be rejected.  Letters must be postmarked as per the deadlines stated in Rule No. 1.

8.    The Competition reserves the right to limit the total number of contestants. In addition, contestant’s repertoire, bio, and letters of recommendation must demonstrate their ability to compete at the international level.

9.    All Advanced Category contestants must submit a current DVD recording of a virtuoso Etude and any piece by a Russian Composer. The recordings do not need to be same the pieces played during the Competition, and can be of any length.

10.  Foreign Contestants: Applicants should consult with the nearest American Embassy or Consulate on advice for visas. Upon written request, the International Russian Music Piano Competition will send an Official Letter of Invitation. Official Letters will only be provided to contestants after their application and fee has been submitted and accepted.  The fee for Official Letters of Invitation is $40, which must be paid in advance and is non-refundable.  Letters will be sent via e-mail and the original copy will be sent through the United States Postal Service (USPS) regular mail with delivery in approximately 20-30 days.  Since regular mail has no tracking capability, Express Mail can be requested for an additional $40.  The USPS will only guarantee the official letters have been delivered to the country of request, and not to the specific address of the contestant.  Express Mail tracking numbers will be forwarded to contestants for online verification, however the competition provides no guarantees as to delivery to the contestant due to procedures and restrictions within certain countries. Express mail packages and all international packages should be addressed to 1434 Montego Drive, San Jose CA 95120.

11.  During each Round, the contestant’s performance will be in accordance with the order determined by the draw.  The order of performance will remain the same in the event of round advancement.

12.  All contestants must be ready and willing to perform earlier or later than their scheduled time due to any cancellations and unforeseen schedule changes.

13.  All works must be performed from memory, (with the exception of the Advanced Final Round).

14.  The same piece may not be performed more than once over the course of the Competition.

15.  Actual timing of each work performed must be stated accurately based on the contestant’s time of performance and not from a third party recording of the piece. The length of the program may not exceed the allotted time as stated in the repertoire requirements. Applications with repertoire that exceed the allotted time, or actual timing that is listed incorrectly will be rejected. If the repertoire submitted is rejected due to repertoire length, a re-submission may be submitted. The late fee will apply if the resubmission occurs after the first deadline. No exceptions will be considered or permitted.

16.  The Jury has the right to:
a) stop the contestants during the performance for any reason.
b) withhold awards if entrants fail to reach the required standards.
c) share prizes (except Advanced Category 1st Prize) amongst an established number of finalists.

17.  Contacting Jury members before or during the competition is not permitted.
