Repertoire Requirements

Young Musicians

One Round Only

   No more than 10 minutes
   Two contrasting pieces from any time period
   One piece must be by a Russian Composer



Junior Category

One Round Only
   No more than 15 minutes

First Piece:
   One Virtuoso Etude of contestant's choice

Second Piece:
  
Any movement of a Classical Sonata, no repeats. Sonatinas are not acceptable.

Third Piece:
   One piece by any Russian Composer (no Concertos)
  

 

 

 

  



Intermediate Category

Two Rounds
The same piece may not be performed more than once.

Round One: (no more than 15 minutes)
First Piece:
   J. S. Bach - One prelude and Fugue from Well-Tempered Clavier, Volume I or II

Second Piece:
   One Virtuoso Etude of contestant's choice 

Third Piece:
   One piece by a Russian Composer (no Concertos) 


Final Round
:
(no more than 15 minutes)
First Piece:
   1st Movement from a Classical Sonata - no repeats

Second Piece:
  
One piece by a Russian Composer (no Concertos)
 


 Advanced Category

Three Rounds
The same piece may not be performed more than once.

Round One:
(No more than 20 minutes)
First Piece:
   One piece from polyphonic style - original works only (Bach, Buxtehude, Hindemith, Mendelssohn, Shchedrin, Shostakovich, Taneev)

Second Piece:
   One Virtuoso Etude of contestant's choice

Third Piece:
   One piece, or selected single movement(s) from a Sonata, or a set of short pieces by a Russian composer


Round Two:
(No more than 25 minutes)
First Piece:
   First movement from a Classical Sonata – no repeats (Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven)

Second Piece:
   Any piece from Romantic or Impressionistic time period

Third Piece:
   One piece, or selected single movement(s) from a Sonata, or a set of short pieces by a Russian Composer


Final Round:
Any of the following Piano Trios:
Note: Contestants are allowed to use music for the Piano Trio. The Competition will provide string players.
